The Characteristic Most Highly Correlated With Success

Persistence leads to success“If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying, ”Here comes number seventy-one!”

~Richard M. DeVos

Yes, it takes persistence and determination to succeed. But how can we cultivate persistence? In order to be persistent, we have to stop worrying about being perfect. Because if we try to be perfect, we will avoid any situation in which we might fail, make mistakes or do something imperfectly.

And it takes going through exactly those situations to can learn what we need to learn and grow from the experience. If we insist on doing things perfectly, we will stop after one “bad” experience. We will not take another risk. We will stop trying again.  And we will stop ourselves from succeeding.

So be imperfect. Be persistent. And be successful!
