Your Entire Life Journey Consists Of The Step You Are Taking At This Moment

“Your entire life journey ultimately consists of the step you are taking at this moment. There is always only this one step, and so you give it your fullest attention. This doesn’t mean you don’t know where you are going; it just means this step is primary, the destination secondary. And what you encounter at your destination once you get there depends on the quality of this one step. Another way of putting it: What the future holds for you depends on your state of consciousness now.”

~from “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle

This is the opposite of what we have been trained to do.  Since our society values achievement, we have been conditioned to focus on getting to the destination. However, happiness research has shown that it isn’t reaching the goal that really makes us happy, it is enjoying the journey towards a goal.

We can change our focus to give each moment our fullest attention instead. It just requires practice and constant reminders to stay present and enjoy the here and now, each step of our way.  Are you willing to be present right now, in this moment?
