“People who ask confidently get more than those who are hesitant and uncertain. When you’ve figured out what you want to ask for, do it with certainty, boldness and confidence.”
~Jack Canfield
When I still worked in the corporate world, I noticed a big difference between men and women in terms of asking for what we want. I saw many men jump in and confidently ask for projects, promotions, and raises. And I noticed many women who waited until they felt they were ready, until they proved themselves, or until their accomplishments were recognized.
While I don’t believe in arrogance and overconfidence, I do think that many of us simply wait too long. We wait until we feel really confident in order to act or ask for something we want.
So how do we get out of our own way? I believe that we sometimes have to just decide that we are going to be confident, rather than waiting until confidence comes to us. We make a decision that we are ready, capable and strong. And we then take action with certainty, boldness, and confidence.
And sometimes things may not work out, we may hear a ‘no’ or be told to wait. And that’s ok. We can make another decision to keep on going and to try again.
There is great power in realizing that we can decide how we want to be rather than waiting to feel a certain way. We are so much more capable than we think.
